Kanawha County BOE to vote on new Capital High principal

CHARLESTON, W. Va. — One of West Virginia’s largest schools could learn who its new principal is during the Kanawha County’s Board of Education meeting Monday night.

The board expects to vote on the new principal at Capital High School based on a recommendation from Superintendent Ron Duerring. Six finalists interviewed for the vacancy two weeks ago.

A public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will include a discussion of the board’s proposed budget.

Duerring said the board seeks a leader to improve the academics and strengthen community engagement at the school.

Capital High has been in search of a principal since Clinton Giles resigned in February. Giles faced a misdemeanor charge for not reporting an alleged sexual assault at the school in a timely manner, a charge that was later dropped.
