NITRO, W.Va. — A crane fell on its side while putting a heavy HVAC unit on top of a church in Nitro Thursday morning.
Abbott’s Wrecker Service crews were called into action and brought a second crane to Holy Trinity Catholic Church to assist. The second crane helped dismantle the first; the toppled-over crane was taken away in parts.
There were no injuries in the incident.
The area experienced power outages and traffic backups. Power from 22nd Street to 28th Street was knocked out. Nitro police and firefighters closed the streets around the church.
There was extensive roof damage, authorities said.
