Parkersburg woman charged with murder waives prelim

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A woman charged with murder in Wood County has waived a preliminary hearing in magistrate court.

Samantha Deem

Samantha Deem, 33, of Parkersburg, was scheduled to appear Monday afternoon for a hearing. She waived it instead sending her case to a Wood County grand jury for consideration.

Deem allegedly shot and killed Raleigh County resident Jessica Lively, 35, at an apartment complex on 7th Street in Parkersburg on Oct. 5.

An investigation revealed Lively and a man had gone to the apartment building to speak with an acquaintance who was identified as Deem. Witnesses told police the two women got into an argument which escalated and Deem produced a handgun and shot Lively in the chest.

Deem remains in the North Central Regional Jail without bail.
