Charleston police say Dennis Keith Butler is from Philadephia but has ties in Charleston.

That’s how Charleston PD Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper described Dennis Keith Butler, AKA “30”, a Philadelphia resident who has recently been living in Charleston.

Butler allegedly shot Nakalia Russell, 19, of Charleston, in the back and pistol whipped her.

“They were arguing over a stolen car he was driving,” Cooper told MetroNews.

The incident happened at about 415 a.m. in the 500 block of Nancy Street on Charleston’s East End.

Russell’s injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening, Cooper said.
