Country singer’s son drowns in Tennessee

WAVERLY, Tn. — The body of Jerry Greer, 19, son of country music singer Craig Morgan was recovered Monday from a lake west of Nashville after he drowned in a boating accident Sunday.

A Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency spokesman told Nashville TV station WSMV Greer and a friend were riding on a tube pulled by a boat on Kentucky Lake when the tube flipped.  The friend resurfaced, Greer did not.  The incident happened on Sunday.  Greer’s body was located by the Humphrey’s County Sheriff’s Department in the Tennessee River which feeds Kentucky Lake on Monday. TWRA investigators say Greer and his friend were both wearing life jackets at the time.

Greer was a recent graduate of Dickson County High School in Tennessee and was headed to Marshall University this fall where he was to play football according to Morgan’s record label Black River Entertainment. The label confirmed Greer’s death “with deep sadness.”

Thundering Herd Football Coach Doc Holliday released statement Tuesday morning after learning of Greer’s death.

“Jerry reached out to us this summer with the intention of joining our program at a later date. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family during this most difficult time.”
