Rep. Alex Mooney hosts 2nd Amendment town hall in Poca

POCA, W.Va. — Rep. Alex Mooney was in Putnam County Thursday night for a Second Amendment town hall event.

Mooney, West Virginia’s 2nd District Congressman, said he wanted to host the event at the Poca River Hunting, Fishing and Recreation Club because the right to bear arms is important to his district and the whole Mountain State.

“The constituents I represent in West Virginia have made it clear to me that they cherish the legitimate use of firearms, for self-defense and many other important uses,” he said. “As long as I’m there, you can count on me to defend your Second Amendment rights.”

Mooney believed the Second Amendment has come under attack more often, particularly after terrorist attacks and shootings.

“Every time there is a tragedy or misuse of a firearm, misguided politicians attempt to use that emotional situation for political purposes to attack Second Amendment rights,” he explained. “When in actuality, it’s the right to keep and bear arms that protect us, that keep us safer from attacks.”

Mooney referred to “liberal gun grabbers,” and said he didn’t see the struggle over gun rights and safety ending anytime soon.

“There’s no end to it. It’s a constitutional right, you can’t take it away. But the anti-gun left will continue to attack Second Amendment rights. It’s just what they believe in.”

Mooney said he hadn’t wavered in his support for Donald Trump in the November election.

“The Clintons and the Obamas have shown their disrespect for the Second Amendment. Certainly would be able to count on them to continue to push to ban gun rights.”

Those who attended Thursday night’s town hall were able to bring their own guns, and use the club shooting range, as well as the swimming pool and fishing ponds after the event.
