HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — CSX eliminated 70 jobs at its locomotive shop in Huntington last Friday, the company confirmed in a statement Tuesday.

The move came after a review by the CSX management team to improve efficiency, safety and service to its customers, CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle told MetroNews.
“Approximately 270 positions remain at the facility, which will remain open and will continue to service locomotives. Employees affected by this change are eligible to seek positions at other nearby CSX facilities,” Doolittle said.
In January 2016, CSX announced the closing of its division and administrative offices in Huntington because of the steep downturn in coal production. That move impacted 121 train dispatchers, yardmasters, clerks and signal workers.
As a result of last year’s shakeup, the work of the Huntington office to oversee train operations in several states was reassigned to divisions in Atlanta, Baltimore, Florence, Great Lakes and Louisville.
