Mercer Co. woman charged for embezzling from employer

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — A Mercer County woman was arrested Friday for stealing a “substantial amount of money” from a Bluefield business.

According to Bluefield Police, 66-year-old Roseanna Coomes of Brushfork was taken into custody Friday for embezzling from Cole Truck Parts.  Coomes is a 40-year employee of the company.  Bluefield Police Detective Kenny Adams told the Bluefield-Daily Telegraph her arrest is long overdue.

“She’s been stealing from them for quite some time,” Adams said. “We were first alerted to the incident on Friday when the owner of the business came in (to report the crime).”

The owner is Tom Cole, former mayor of Bluefield.  Cole confirmed that Coomes had been working in the company’s accounting department.  The exact amount embezzled has not been released, but the incidents date back several years.

Coomes was arraigned on Friday in front of Mercer County Magistrate Susan Honaker.  She has already been released on $25,000 bond.

Further charges and another arrest may happen as the investigation continues.
