BECKLEY, W.Va. — Details may come later this week about a Saturday night motel fire in Raleigh County.
The Beaver Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the Green Bank Motel along Eisenhower Drive for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews noticed heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building.
Firefighters checked all rooms and did not find any victims. They discovered the blaze was in the motel’s large attic.
Crews began to pull down the ceiling to control the fire from spreading. About 45 firefighters from across Raleigh County responded to assist. The fire was reportedly under control by 2 Sunday morning. Crews left the scene at around 4 that morning.
The Beaver Volunteer Fire Department confirmed to MetroNews affiliate WJLS that no smoke detectors or sprinklers were present in the motel. About 10 rooms were “extensively damaged” from the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office, who also confirmed an investigator was sent to the scene Monday morning. An official cause of the fire may be released Tuesday, pending the investigation.
Assisting units included the Bradley-Prosperity Volunteer Fire Department, Mabscott Volunteer Fire Department and the Beckley Fire Department. No injuries were reported in the incident.
