CLARKSBURG, W.Va — Connor Neal tossed five touchdown passes and threw for 340 yards as No. 1 Fairmont Senior cruised to a 46-20 win over No. 8 Robert C. Byrd Friday night.
Neal connected with a pair of receivers for multiple touchdown receptions. Midway through the first quarter, J.D. Smith reeled in a 19-yard pass from Neal to open the scoring. In the second quarter, the Polar Bears exploded for touchdowns on three consecutive possessions. Smith scored his second touchdown on a 76-yard pass down the sideline. Elijah Posey and Jake Pittman each added scoring receptions to put the Polar Bears up 29-0 at the half.
A Frankie Smith 39-yard field goal extended the FSHS lead to 32 points early in the third. Neal would throw his fifth touchdown pass to Pittman to put the Polar Bears up 39-0 through three quarters.
Freshman Jeremiah King opened a 20-point fourth quarter for the Flying Eagles with a 2-yard touchdown run. But the Polar Bears were never threatened the rest of the way. Fairmont Senior will visit Lewis County next Friday while Robert C. Byrd will meet Lincoln.
