Man killed in collision with Berkeley County school bus

MARLOWE, W.Va. — A man from Maryland is dead following a morning collision with a Berkeley County school bus.

Authorities responded to the 9300 block of Williamsport Pike (U.S. Route 11) at around 6:30 Thursday morning for an accident call. Upon arrival, Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies learned a pick-up truck driven by Joseph Deaty, 34, crossed the center line heading northbound and struck the southbound school bus head on.

“At the time of the accident, there were no students on the bus with the exception of the son of the bus operator, who attends Spring Mills Middle School.  Neither of them were injured and have been offered crisis services through Berkeley County Schools. We extend our condolences to the family of the driver of the vehicle involved and thank the emergency personnel and volunteers who quickly responded.”
