Woods scores 33 as Wheeling Park surges past Morgantown, 60-45

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Shanley Woods connected on seven 3-pointers during a 33-point effort as Wheeling Park pulled away from Morgantown 60-45 Tuesday night.

Wheeling Park (2-0) used a 13-2 third quarter run to take a lead. Woods caught fire in the second half, making six 3s.

“When she (Woods) was off in the first half, we were a little surprised,” said Wheeling Park coach Ryan Young.¬†“I said once one goes in, the rest are going to fall. And that’s what happened.”

Morgantown (1-2) led 22-20 at halftime before being outscored 21-9 in the third quarter.

“It is a big win,” Young said. “We haven’t won down here in about eight years. We can check one (goal) off early in the year and that feels good.”

Isabella Abernathy added 12 points for the Patriots.

Kaitlyn Ammons led the Mohigans with 14 points.
