Brown adds fourth off-field analyst to West Virginia football staff

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Neal Brown continued the expansion of West Virginia’s support staff with the addition of analyst Robby Brown.

Robby — of no relation to Neal, per WVU athletics — will serve in the position of special assistant to the head coach and senior offensive analyst.

“Robby brings outstanding organizational skills and great attention to detail,” Neal Brown said in a school press release. “I have known him for many years and have watched him develop into an excellent administrator and coach. He also brings offensive experience to our coaching staff, including several years in the NFL. He will be a good addition to our staff.”

Robby Brown spent the past four seasons serving as a quality control coach for the New York Jets under Todd Bowles, spending two years apiece on each side of the ball.

Robby first worked with Neal as a graduate assistant at Troy when Neal was the Trojans’ offensive coordinator. His career continued with stops at three Division II schools (Southwest Baptist, Henderson State, Valdosta State) before moving to FCS Northwestern (La.) State and finally FBS South Alabama. Robby Brown was the offensive coordinator for Valdosta State’s 2012 national championship team, which averaged 40 points per game.

Per Robby Brown’s job description, he will “work with the head coach on various administrative and organizational projects. He also will organize, implement and maintain all aspects of game analysis, including direct oversight of the game planning for the offense. He will analyze game film and formulate game plans to assist the coaching staff with game preparation.”

Robby Brown is the fourth analyst on the staff, joining Ryan Nehlen (offense), Casey Vance (defense) and Tyler Hancock (senior special teams analyst). Analysts help with studying film and game-planning, but cannot coach players on the field in practice or games.
