Body found in Jefferson County field

SUMMIT POINT, W.Va. — Jefferson County authorities are investigating a body located in a field near an elementary school.

Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Dougherty confirms the body was reported at around 8 Thursday morning in a field near South Jefferson Elementary School. The preliminary investigation is leading investigators to believe the body was dragged before being dumped.

The body is described as a black male, possibly in his 20’s, with blunt force trauma injuries to the head. It has been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for further examination.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 304-728-3205.
