UPDATE: Man killed in 5 vehicle Charles Town crash identified

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — One person was killed in a crash at a Jefferson County intersection.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirms the accident occurred Saturday afternoon at around 3:20. It happened in the northbound lane of US Route 340 at the intersection with St. Augustine Avenue.

Deputies confirm 11 people were involved in the accident.

One person in a passenger vehicle was killed. The deceased has been identified as John King, 32 of Reston, Virginia.

Others were taken to Jefferson Medical Center, Winchester Medical Center and Innova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of various injuries.

Details of the accident remain unclear, as authorities were still completing accident reconstruction as of Saturday night. It has been confirmed that a tractor trailer was among the five vehicles involved.

US Route 340 was shut down until about 8 Saturday night.
