Authorities: Berkeley Springs house fire ‘suspicious in nature’, under investigation

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — No injuries have been reported after a house fire in Morgan County, but authorities have deemed the blaze as suspicious.

The Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company responded to Truax lane at around 1:24 Wednesday morning. It took just under an hour for crews to get the blaze under control.

The last unit left at 4:45 Wednesday morning. The cause of the fire at the single-story, wood frame home remains under investigation.

“No civilian or responder injuries were reported. The home is a total loss and the fire is being deemed suspicious in nature and is under investigation by the WV State Fire Marshals Office,” said a press release from the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company.

Fire departments from Morgan County, Hedgesville and Great Cacapon assisted. Multiple Maryland crews also responded including Clear Spring, Hancock, Great Cacapon, Maugansville, Little Orleans and a Washington County air unit.
