Man killed in Martinsburg shooting, suspect arrested in Virginia

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A man is dead and another man is behind bars following a Friday shooting.

Officers responded to 110 Rosewood Drive in Martinsburg at 11:20 Friday night for a shots fired call.

A woman said her son, identified as Richard Austin, shot a pistol during an argument in the home before fleeing.

John Henderson was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

“MPD Detectives conducted an investigation and determined Richard Austin had shot John Henderson
and fled the scene after stealing Dawn Austin’s vehicle. An alert was issued to area agencies for the vehicle and
Richard Austin.”

Officers in Rockingham County, Virginia spotted Austin’s vehicle on I-81 and stopped him.

Austin has been charged with first degree murder. He has been detained in Rockingham Regional Jail as a fugitive from justice.

Martinsburg Police thank West Virginia State Police and the Rockingham Sheriff’s Department for helping with the case.
