Mandatory water conservation alert in effect in Preston County

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — A mandatory water conservation alert has been issued for Preston County.

Danny Layton, the general manager of the Preston County Public service District No. 1, is advising residents to not use water for sprinklers, gardens or washing cars until further notice.

According to Layton, the Fairfax/Ruby Impoundment and Deckers Creek Dam cannot supply enough water to fill the water system’s tanks.

“Just a couple hours of rain is not going to solve the issue, but all water and all rain will help at this time,” he said.

Customers may experience odor, bad tastes issues and possibly brown water.

The flushing scheduled for next week is canceled.
