Vaping related overdoses reported in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An investigation is underway following two overdoses over a 24-hour period related to heroin-laced vape pens .

Ed Preston

Morgantown Police Chief Ed Preston said two high school students have been hospitalized. Their conditions have not been released.

According to Preston, preliminary testing on one of the “Vape” solutions has indicated it contained heroin and other opioids as well as a significant number of other chemicals.

“These types of solutions are extremely dangerous and potentially fatal from as little as one use,” Preston said.

Police are trying to collect as many of the pens as possible. Preston said they don’t want anyone else hurt.

“The big thing is there are vape pens and vape solutions that are potentially fatal from one usage,” Preston said.

Police are asking residents to bring the pens to the police department.

“But, we would like to try to get a hold of as many as we can so we can test them for all the chemicals and everything that’s in them,” Preston said,”We’re not looking to charge anyone for possession of anything, we’re trying to find the source and find out exactly what all is in these things that are causing all the problems.”

Information about or any other crime can be reported by calling 304-284-7522. If you have a medical emergency please call 911.
