Boyles staying with Grafton hospital after interim role

GRAFTON, W.Va. — A Fairmont native will stay with Grafton City Hospital for the foreseeable future, although in a new position.

Interim president and chief administrative officer George Boyles has become the full-time chief administrative officer. He has been serving in the interim role since October.

“Our board is very pleased to welcome George into this permanent role as his leadership in the interim has been exceptional,” said John Bord, chairperson of the Grafton City Hospital Board of Directors.

Boyles has 20 years of executive and administration experience. including as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Mercer County Joint Township Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio. In this position, Boyles led the facility from a $500,000 deficit to financial stability and expansion.

“We were able to also maintain a level of profitability of about $2.5 million for four or five years,” Boyles explained. “Because of that, we were able to build a new $24 million wing onto the hospital.”

Grafton City Hospital, which became an affiliate of Mon Health System last year, has continued to make financial progress.

Boyles said the hospital has to do its best to serve struggle surrounding communities amid a period of facility closures.

“I’m not going to sugar coat things. I’m going to tell them the good as well as the bad,” he said. “With that type of an atmosphere, with the community behind the hospital, that’s the number one thing.”
