Crouch suggests Mother’s Day alternatives

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Mother’s Day 2020 will be much different than in previous years.

Many people across the country will not be able to celebrate the occasion with their mothers on Sunday because of the coronavirus pandemic, as social distancing and restricted travel are being encouraged.

Bill Crouch. the secretary of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, suggested alternatives for honoring Mom while also following guidelines.

“There are ways to honor Mom that do not pose the risk of disease transmission,” he said during Friday’s coronavirus briefing.

“Schedule an online Mother’s Day call — FaceTime, Zoom or just a telephone call, send a gift, make Mom and video with Happy Mother’s Day messages from all the children and grandchildren.”

Crouch said people can visit their mothers if there is plenty of outdoor space and as long as people practice social distancing and wear face protection.
