WVU secures second Scandinavian commitment in ’21 class

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — For the second time in the Class of 2021, WVU has secured a verbal commitment from a player from Scandinavia. Helsinki, Finland defensive lineman Edward Vesterinen has accepted a scholarship offer from West Virginia.

Vesterinen stands 6-foot-4 and weights 250 pounds. Dublin, Ohio product Hammond Russell and Buford, Ga. native Brayden Dudley are other defensive linemen in this year’s recruiting class.

This was the first ‘Power 5’ offer for Vesterinen. He also received offers from Coastal Carolina and Massachusetts. Vesterinen competed on European Junior and Finland national championship teams in his prep career. He is listed as the No. 2 defensive lineman recruit from Europe in this year’s class by ‘Europe’s Elite’ recruiting service.

Stockholm, Sweden tight end Viktor Wikstrom was the first player to commit to next year’s recruiting class.
