Multiple coronavirus cases reported at Southern Regional Jail

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation on Friday said multiple inmates and employees at the Southern Regional Jail have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Ten inmates and employees have tested positive, including one inmate currently at the facility. The employees that have tested positive include contract workers, and they will remain in self-quarantine at home until they are medically cleared to return.

Two inmates that tested positive were released on furlough.

The results for 27 tests are pending. Contact tracing is also underway.
