CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Health and Human Resources added 157 confirmed COVID-19 cases to the state’s active cases Friday.

The active cases were at 2,849 as of Friday morning. The state is still leading the nation in the rate of spread at 1.48. The next closest state on the Rt list, Wisconsin, has a rate of 1.22.

The DHHR said it confirmed six additional deaths Friday from COVID-19 bringing the total to 263. The deaths include an 86-year old female from Logan County, a 90-year old male from Kanawha County, a 93-year old male from Raleigh County, a 77-year old male from Putnam County, a 59-year old male from Fayette County, and a 79-year old male from Kanawha County.

“As we honor the lives of these West Virginians, we also remember those Americans who perished on this solemn anniversary nineteen years ago,” DHHR Secretary Bill Crouch said.
