WVU adds players, athletic staff to COVID-19 portal

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University has added coronavirus cases involving college athletes and staff members to its COVID-19 dashboard.

The online resource, as of Wednesday, includes data involving athletics dating back to Sept. 2.

“By early September, we were able to determine the best way to incorporate the Athletics data into our overall campus testing numbers,” said Dr. Carmen Burrell, an associate professor at the WVU School of Medicine.

“This is the latest in our efforts to continually refine and improve our dashboard and public reporting processes to be as transparent as possible, especially as we ramp up additional screening testing on the Morgantown campus.”

The Big 12 athletic conference ordered testing for athletes and staff in June. All positive tests are also being reported to state agencies.
