State approves medical cannabis grower permits

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Office of Medical Cannabis has approved 10 businesses for medical cannabis grower permits.

“This is an important step in the process to make medical cannabis available to West Virginians with serious medical conditions and will generate economic activity throughout West Virginia,” Jason Frame, state Director of the OMC said in a statement. “We continue to work toward a goal of providing eligible West Virginia residents the ability to procure quality-tested medical cannabis.”

The permit will allow growers to cultivate medical cannabis plants before sending the plants to processors:

— Mountaineer Holding LLC in Belle.
— Harvest Care Medical LLC in Kearneysville.
— Buckhannon Grow LLC in Buckhannon.
— Holistic WV Farms I LLC in Beaver.
— Verano WV LLC in Beaver.
— Columbia Care WV LLC in Falling Water.
— Tariff Labs LLC in Left Hand.
— Armory Pharmaceutical Inc in Buckhannon.
— Mountaineer Integrated Care Inc. in Fort Ashby.
— Blue Ridge Botanicals Ltd. in Southside.

The Office of Medical Cannabis will next score processor and dispensary applications. The office’s goal is to begin the process of issuing patient cards in the spring.

“We want to have a functioning industry in which patients can visit a dispensary and obtain product in late Spring ’21. We’ll start registering patients in the early spring,” Frame said.

During an update on the startup of the industry last month, Frame confirmed two people have been hired as investigators and part of the office’s enforcement team. A third investigator is also expected to be brought on board as operations broaden.
