Marshall game vs. Charlotte cancelled

HUNTINGTON – Friday night’s scheduled football game between Marshall and Charlotte at Joan C. Edwards Stadium has been cancelled. Marshall officials announced Wednesday morning the game would not be played due to a lack of scholarship athletes because of injuries and COVID-19 issues.

“Due to the developments this week, myself and our medical team felt that it was unsafe to put the team on the field Friday evening,” said Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick. “I’d like to thank Charlotte AD Mike Hill and the 49ers’ administration for their patience and understanding. I also want to thank the Conference USA office for its support and guidance as we worked through this process.”

Friday’s game had been rescheduled from Nov. 10 when COVID-19 issues within the Charlotte program forced the matchup to be postponed.

Marshall finishes the regular season with an overall record of 7-1 and 4-1 in Conference USA.
