Man arrested in Morgantown murder case

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Monongalia County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Alexa Randolph.

Gary Donald Smith, 60, of Morgantown, has been charged with first-degree murder.

According to deputies, Smith is the paternal grandfather of Alexa Randolph’s child.

Investigators said Randolph’s car was left at the Walmart on Hornbeck Road just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. Her body was found the next day.

Detectives said Smith fled on foot from the Walmart and are looking for witnesses that may have seen him in the parking lot or walking along Grafton Road.

Smith is being held without bail.

Detectives continue to seek information in connection with the case. They are asking members of the public to call 304-291-7218.
