Junior Emmitt Matthews Jr. entered the NCAA transfer portal Thursday, becoming the second West Virginia player to do so since the season ended Sunday.
The 6-foot-7 Matthews just wrapped up his junior season and will have two years of eligibility remaining if he chooses.

Matthews appeared in all 29 West Virginia games this season, starting 25 and playing nearly 26 minutes on average.
He was the team’s fifth leading scorer at 7.7 points and added four rebounds. Matthews saw an expanded role following the mid-season deparature of Oscar Tshiebwe.
A Tacoma, Washington, native, Matthews had originally signed a letter-of-intent with Connecticut and was set to join the Huskies’ program out of high school until then-head coach Kevin Ollie was fired.
Matthews instead came to West Virginia, and played extensively as a freshman. He averaged 5.4 points and 16.4 minutes over 32 games, including 12 starts.
As a sophomore, Matthews started 30 of 31 games and scored 6.3 points to go with 3.6 rebounds.
West Virginia point guard Jordan McCabe, who also just finished his junior season, announced earlier this week he was entering the transfer portal.
Matthews and McCabe arrived at West Virginia ahead of the 2018 season, along with fellow junior Derek Culver.
