Growth in Berkeley County results in voting updates

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Unprecedented growth in the state’s second largest county means changes to how Berkeley County’s elections may look moving forward.

Berkeley County Clerk Elaine Mauck said the county is set to purchase all new voting equipment that will also help supply new voting locations.

“We’re going to have new 80 new polling books and 240 new machines,” Mauck said.

This month, Berkeley County Council unanimously approved the purchase of a new voting system for elections at a price tag of about $1.3 million.

In addition, Mauck estimates as many as 6 to 10 new voting precincts may be needed.

Mauck was a guest recently on Panhandle Live on MetroNews affiliate WEPM Radio in Martinsburg. You can hear the full interview by clicking the link on the Panhandle Live Facebook page.
