Firefighters battle blaze at Steel of West Virginia plant

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Firefighters were helping workers at Steel of West Virginia keep a fire in one of the plant’s buildings under control Friday afternoon.

The fire was first reported at around 10 a.m. at the facility on 2nd Avenue in Huntington near the Marshall University campus.

One worker was injured. It wasn’t immediately known how seriously.

Huntington Fire Chief Jan Rader told reporters on the scene that molten steel caught one building on fire and smoke had spread to a few other buildings. Firefighters found flames in a roof early Friday afternoon, the Huntington Herald Dispatch reported.
