Jefferson County high school celebrates field turf installation

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — A Jefferson County high school on Friday celebrated the installation of new field turf at its football stadium.

Jefferson High School students and coaches took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Cougar Field. Jefferson County voters last November approved the turf conversion as part of a $43.7 million bond. The project cost more than $950,000.

According to Jefferson County Schools, the transition to field turf began in 2010 when parents and boosters created an athletic complex committee.

“To fast forward and have the community come together and vote to pay for this, it’s an amazing dream. Definitely brought tears to my eyes,” Board of Education member Laurie Ogden said. “I love seeing this field, and I am so happy for the kids.”

Ogden added the update improves Jefferson High School’s image as a local and regional ambassador.
