Huntington City Council will vote Monday on eliminating B&O tax

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Huntington City Council on Monday will vote a proposed ordinance to eliminate the city’s business and occupation tax impacting retail businesses.

Council members considered the matter on first reading at its Aug. 23 meeting. Mayor Steve Williams is supporting the elimination, noting the tax has been suspended since April 2020 as a form of relief for businesses amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Williams, the city has made up lost revenue through sales tax collections.

Monday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
