Active COVID cases continue dropping, no new deaths added Sunday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active COVID-19 cases keep falling in West Virginia, according to the latest numbers released Sunday by the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

There are currently 11,223 active cases compared to Friday’s 11,926.

No new deaths were reported Sunday. That’s a big change from Friday when the state added 70 COVID related deaths. There are 3,935 total deaths.

Since the last report, 1,071 new cases were added the DHHR’s COVID-19 Dashboard.

Hospitalizations are also decreasing. There are 840 patients, including 250 in intensive care and 168 on ventilators.

Breakthrough cases, meaning people who got sick with the virus after being fully vaccinated, now stands at more than 14,000 in West Virginia.
