Last Week of the Regular Season and 51 Games!

Ten weeks down and just this one final week remains in the regular season of high school football in WV!  I can remember many times over the past several years when we reached the last week of the regular season, the number of games played on that final weekend would be far less than 51!  But the reasons why this year are easy to figure out!

Once again, it is that dreaded word Covid that has caused so many teams to be playing the final week of the regular season.  For a lot of teams that are playoff bound, week #11 was the week you let your team rest in order to get ready for the second part of the high school season.  However, with cancellations caused by Covid during the regular season, a lot of teams had to hustle and not only are they playing the final week of the regular season, they have also found themselves playing more than just one game in a week and I promise you that is not a scenario any high school coach likes to be faced with!  However, the good news is in 2021 we will have a great  number of teams finish the regular season having played 10 games….and, that is a tremendous difference in the number of teams from last year that even got anywhere close to playing ten regular season games!!  So, hat’s off to school administrations all across the state for working hard to get those games in for their teams!

Now speaking of the 51 games scheduled for week #11, we have several good games in each class and several important games in each class.

Beginning in Class AAA, games with playoff implications will find Wheeling Park @ John Marshall – Princeton @ Parkersburg South – Beckley Woodrow Wilson @ South Charleston – Morgantown @ Spring Mills and Hurricane @ Spring Valley!

In Class AA, it is a battle of East vs. West as East Fairmont will tangle with Fairmont Senior at East West Stadium – Logan will travel to Herbert Hoover – Frankfort is at Keyser and Lincoln will host Class AAA Bridgeport.

In Class A, a couple of games should provide some excitement and playoff implications as Mt. View will travel to Charmco to battle Greenbrier West and Madonna will be at Trinity.

Be sure and join Dave Jecklin and me for GAMENIGHT this Friday night from 9:30 til midnight on over 40 great radio stations around the state and the live video and audio will be streamed at wvmetronews.com.

Look forward to talking with you Friday night!
