CHARLESTON, W.Va. — COVID-19 hospitalizations in West Virginia fell once again in another daily report out by the state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) on Friday.
The agency confirmed 424 patients in hospitals due to the virus, down from 444 Thursday. The Friday figure marks another 7-month low, as August 18 of last year marked the last day levels were as low as 424.
The DHHR confirmed 107 patients are in the ICU and 57 patients on a vent, both slightly down from Thursday.
There are now 2,088 active cases, as of Friday. That’s slightly up from the 2,048 figure reported Thursday. This week’s level of active cases in the state is the lowest since July 28 of last year when the number was under 2,000.
13 coronavirus related deaths were added on Friday to bring the statewide death total to 6,440.
DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 67-year old male from Mercer County, a 66-year old male from Berkeley County, a 50-year old female from Fayette County, a 69-year old female from Marion County, a 79-year old female from Logan County, a 76-year old male from Cabell County, a 66-year old male from Upshur County, a 59-year old female from Preston County, a 71-year old female from Berkeley County, a 66-year old female from Upshur County, an 86-year old female from Marion County, an 89-year old female from Logan County, and a 64-year old male from Logan County.
“Each death reported is a solemn reminder of the seriousness of this disease,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary in a release. “Together, we can end transmission of this deadly virus by choosing to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.”
