Secretary of State’s Office releases map detailing voting information

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office has released an online map providing information about election precincts and legislative districts.

The website — https://www.mapwv.gov/vote/ — allows users to type in their address to get information regarding their congressional district, state legislative districts, magisterial district and voting precinct.

“It’s an accumulation of work of the county clerks and the county commissions putting together their redistricting maps and giving it to us in a format that we can put on our website,” Deputy Secretary Chuck Flannery said last week on “MetroNews Hotline.”

“Not only is it cool, but it’s very informative and it’s timely.”

The map’s release comes more than two months before West Virginia’s May 10 primary election. The state Legislature and county bodies have approved new districts over the last year following the release of U.S. Census data showing population changes.

“This is just the beginning,” Flannery said. “We can add more to this, like sample ballots and driving instructions to where you have to go on Election Day once we get polling locations in the system.”

The final day to register to vote is April 19.
