Dominick Dyke, 23, was arrested at the scene Tuesday night. The shooting happened at around 10:50 p.m. in the 2100 block of 7th Avenue, located where some Marshall University students live in off-campus housing.

The victim, Marcell Henry, 25, of Huntington, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said the two men got into a physical altercation and Dyke shot the victim after they separated.

Marshall officials said in Wednesday statement the shooting did not involve current students. The university had to activate its emergency alert system Tuesday night citing safety concerns.

“The safety and security of our students, faculty and staff is a top priority, both on campus and our surrounding community,” university officials wrote.

Students are encouraged to contact Marshall’s Counseling Center at (304)-696-3111 if they want to access services. Students can also call 1-855-327-4293 to speak to a licensed professional 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Huntington Police are handling the investigation.
