MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Starting in the 2022-2023 season, the WVSSAC State Basketball Tournaments will operate on a rotating schedule.
For the first two editions of the four-class tournament in 2021 and 2022, the schedule was fixed and the championship games operated on the same schedule. As a result, all Class AAAA quarterfinal games were played on Thursday and teams needed to play three games over the final three days of the tournament.
Under the new format, the schedule for all three rounds will rotate. In 2023, ‘Championship Saturday’ will begin with the Class AAAA title game at 10 a.m. The Class A [12:30 p.m.], Class AA [5 p.m.] and Class AAA [7:30 p.m.] games will follow.

Subject to approval of the WVSSAC Board of Directors, the schedule for regional contests will be changed as well. Next season, Class AA regionals will be played on the Tuesday prior to the state tournament. Class AAA and Class AAAA regionals will be played on Wednesday and Class A games will be set for Thursday.
