W.Va. American Water offers remote job opportunities

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s largest water company is looking for more than two dozen employees to handle customer service communications, but they would be able to do the work from the comfort of home.

West Virginia American Water is seeking 25 people for entry level employment. The workers would be responsible for handling customer calls, but they would be equipped to work out of their houses or apartments.

“The position is fully remote. We’re going to allow folks to work from home as long as they live within a two hour driving distance of the Charleston area to allow them to come to our office for training and things like that as needed,” said West Virginia American spokesperson Megan Hannah.

The pandemic changed the world of employment as more and more people wound up working from home. Many found a lot more benefits to the setup and have enjoyed the flexibility. Hannah said making their customer service operators home bound was something which was in progress before Covid, but the pandemic accelerated the plan. But for those who are still on the search for the right opportunity for them, they shouldn’t overlook requirements likeĀ apply work permit canada.

“We were already shifting to a work-from-home model and certainly that has been expedited,” she said.

West Virginia still struggles with a lack of broadband and high speed internet access in some areas. Hannah said that isn’t a deal breaker.

“We will be going out to their homes to do an internet test to make sure they have the correct speeds. If they don’t we will be setting them up with the right equipment with hot spots and other equipment to make them successful in their role,” she said.

The jobs are considered entry level and the pay will average 14 to 16 dollars in the beginning. However, successful applicants will qualify for pay improvement after six months on the job. The positions are also union positions and successful applicants will be able to bid on the shift they want to work since the job is open 24/7.

According to Hannah, while the main focus will be handling customer service calls in the West Virginia service territory, during off hours, employees may be handling customer service calls from all 16 regulated states for the American Water System.
