MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Mylan Park Foundation will receive a $4.7 million grant for constructing a BMX facility.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced the grant last week.

“This project will boost tourism and outdoor recreation in Morgantown while providing economic stability for the region,” Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said in a statement.
The grant is supported by American Rescue Plan funds and will be matched with $1.2 million in local funds. The project is expected to create 80 jobs and generate $1.2 million in private investment.
“That’s all good news for the continuation of events going on up at Mylan Park,” Monongalia County Commissioner Sean Sikora told MetroNews affiliate WAJR-AM.
Mylan Park officials have been collaborating with USA BMX, Action Sports Design, Ascend West Virginia and the Youth Cycling Coalition on designing the track. The BMX track will be the only facility in the United States that will allow full access to the public and individuals with physical disabilities.
“It will bring opportunities for all of our citizens, including the handicapped and those less fortunate,” Sikora said. “It’s a good thing for the overall community.”
Officials have not presented a schedule regarding the facility’s construction.
