Huntington police search for man who took children

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Huntington Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who lured two children into his vehicle.

According to officers, a man in a dark-colored Subaru Forester approached the 9-year-old male and 12-year-old female around 5 p.m. Wednesday at 7th Street West and 5th Avenue West. The driver offered the children $20 to babysit a child for him. The children got into the vehicle.

The man drove the vehicle to a spot near 19th Street and 10th Avenue. He stopped the car and requested the male child look at a rear, passenger side donut tire. When he got out of the car, the man left with the other child.

The driver ignored the female’s demands to be let out of the car. The girl was able to open a passenger door and exit the vehicle.

Neither child reported any injuries.

Authorities described the man as heavy-set and white. He was clean-shaven, bald and had a skull tattoo on his upper right arm. Officers said the man is in his 30s or 40s.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Huntington Police Department Detective Bureau at 304-696-4420, ext. 103, or place an anonymous tip at 304-696-4444.
