Heading Into Week Three, 36% Of Teams Still Undefeated!

High School football in WV is off and running with two weeks of the regular season already in the books!  And, in those first two weeks, we have seen tons of scoring with a lot of teams putting 40 points on the scoreboard…..many teams lighting the scoreboard with 50 points…..several teams lighting the scoreboard up for 60 points and, a few teams have even reached towering heights by putting up more than 70 points!  And, as one might expect, with that many points scored, a number of teams have played two games and won two games.  The numbers look this way:  In Class AAA there are 32 teams and 12 are still undefeated.  In Class AA there are 37 teams and 12 are still undefeated.  And, in Class A there are 43 teams and 16 are still undefeated!  So, total everything up and we have 112 teams in WV playing high school football and so far, 40 are still undefeated or, as we see in the subject line above, 36% still have that goose egg on the right side of the won/loss column!

Looking ahead to week #3, we find some exciting games where some of those undefeated teams will have to work noticeably harder to improve to 3-0!  Coming up in Class AAA we have Brooke (2-0) playing at (1-1) University…..George Washington (2-0) will travel to Putnam County to battle (2-0) Hurricane…..Hedgesville (2-0) will make the long trip to Marion County where they will meet up with Class AA East Fairmont (1-1) –  Martinsburg (2-0) will travel to Stephens City, Va. to take on the (2-0) Warriors of Sherando..Parkersburg South (2-0) will head to Raleigh County this Saturday Afternoon to battle the (2-0) Flying Eagles of Beckley at 1pm…..Princeton (2-0) will meet up in Oak Hill (1-1) to take on the Red Devils…..and, (2-0) Wheeling Park will travel to Cleveland, Oh. Friday night to take on the (2-1) Vikings of Villa Angela-St. Joseph.

In Class AA, week three starts out with a dandy as (2-0) Chapmanville travels to Winfield to take on the (1-1) Generals…..(2-0) Clay County will welcome (2-0) Roane County…….Fairmont Senior (2-0) will travel to Class AAA Preston Knights (0-2)…..Frankfort (2-0) will head to Class AAA Washington (0-2)…Independence (2-0) and having defeated their first two opponents by a combined score of 100-0 will travel to Poca to take on the (0-2) Dots…..(1-0) Lincoln will host (0-2) Grafton……the Logan Wildcats (2-0) will welcome (1-1) Wayne……(1-0) Mingo Central will host (1-1) Pt. Pleasant….the Nitro Wildcats (2-0) will welcome (0-2) Herbert Hoover…..North Marion (2-0) will host (0-2) Oak Glen and, (2-0) Scott will welcome (0-2) Sissonville.

In Class A, Cameron (2-0) will make the trip to New Matamoras, Oh. to take on the (2-1) Cougars of Frontier – (2-0) East Hardy will make the trip to Tucker County to battle the (2-0) Mountain Lions….Greenbrier West (2-0) will head to Pocahontas County to take on the (0-2) Warriors……the (2-0) Generals of Montcalm will make the 4 hour bus trip of 221 miles to Paden City to take on the (0-1) Wildcats…..(2-0) Petersburg will host (0-1) Pendleton County……the (2-0) Tug Valley Panthers will travel to Willow Wood, Oh. to battle the (1-2) Vikings of Symmes Valley…..(2-0) Valley Wetzel will host (0-1) Clay-Battelle…the (2-0) Bulldogs of Van will host the Richwood Lumberjacks (0-2)….(2-0) Wahama will welcome (0-1) Ritchie County….(2-0) Wheeling Central will entertain the (1-2) Big Reds of Bellaire, Oh……the (2-0) Yellow Jackets of Williamstown will travel to (1-1) Ravenswood and the (2-0) Tigers of Wirt County will travel to Gilmer County to battle the (1-1) Titans.

It definitely looks like another great weekend of high school football and I personally invite everyone to join Dave Jecklin and me for GAMENIGHT this Friday night from 9:30 til midnight when we will go over all the scores and highlights of week number three of high school football in WV!  If you can’t find us on your local radio station, the live video and audio of the show can be found at www.wvmetronews.com.
