WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has an expanded leadership role among Senate Republicans.
Capito was chosen by her colleagues as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference in a Wednesday caucus.
“Sounds pretty good,” Capito said about her new role at an afternoon news conference at the U.S. Capitol.

Capito said she looks forward to serving under Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“I have a lot of admiration for his vision and look forward to carrying forward with that,” Capito said.
Part of Capito’s role will focus on the vision of GOP senators and communicating that vision.
“We’re going to have a unified message, a voice of which I’m going to be participating in creating that message,” Capito said.
Capito described Wednesday’s caucus as “very interesting” and “respectful” among the 48 GOP senators.
“We listened very attentively to the ideas and the desires of our members because, after all, we are elected. Our constituency was in that room,” Capito said.
