Charleston police say woman murdered on front porch of West Side home

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A woman was shot and killed on the front porch of a house on Charleston’s West Side Sunday afternoon.

A shots fired call was reported to Kanawha County Metro 911 at shortly after 3 p.m. in the 1000 block of Grant Street.

According to Charleston police, Julia Nell Wickline, 40, of Charleston, was sitting on the front porch talking on her cellphone when an unknown black man wearing all black clothing walked nearby.

“An exchange of words happened between the suspect and the victim,” police said in a Sunday night news release. “The suspect then pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots at the victim. The suspect fled the scene on foot, heading north on Russell Street.”

First responders with the Charleston Fire Department tried to save Wickline. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are looking for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 304-348-6480 or Metro Communications, 304-348-8111.
