Former Georgia Southern defensive back Anthony Wilson commits to WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As the deadline nears for NCAA football players to enter the transfer portal in the current window, WVU secured a verbal commitment for a position of need on the 2023 roster. Former Georgia Southern defensive back Anthony Wilson offered his pledge to play for the Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon.

Wilson played four seasons at Georgia Southern and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He was an every-game starter for GSU since 2020. The Columbia, S.C. native has made 246 tackles (10.5 for loss) in 40 career games. Wilson had three sacks, a pair of interceptions and 23 pass deflections.

Since entering the portal, Wilson received offers from Charlotte and Louisville.

West Virginia lost a pair of defensive backs when Christion Stokes and Jaylon Shelton announced their intentions to leave Morgantown.
