WESTON, W.Va. — A Lewis County grand jury has indicted a Weston woman in the December 2022 death of her three-month-old daughter.

The panel handed up a multiple-count indictment in the case of Krista Brunecz Monday.
Brunecz, 32, of Weston, allegedly stabbed her daughter multiple times in the chest before stabbing herself. Police said the death occurred on Dec. 30. in an apartment at Weston Manor.
Brunecz was indicted on one count of murder and one count of death of a child by parent by child abuse.
Arraignment is set for Friday morning in Lewis County Circuit Court when a trial date will be scheduled.
Brunecz’s boyfriend, who asked not to be identified, previously told MetroNews she had suffered from postpartum psychosis and had not been able to get help for the condition leading up to the incident.
Her mother, Lorrie Cleavenger, spoke to MetroNews in February. She said her daughter has been struggling with mental health issues for most of her life.
“I just want people to pray for my daughter and pray the laws about mental health are changed,” Cleavenger said.
Editor’s note The original police report said the stabbing occurred at Weston Arbors but that has now been corrected. The alleged crime happened at Weston Manor.
