In a statement to MetroNews, Presidential Search Committee Chair Brad Lane said Boggess plans to retire after 40 years of service to Concord.

“Dr. Boggess’ retirement from Concord University marks the end of a significant era of leadership and dedication. Her tenure has been characterized by a commitment to academic excellence, student success, and community engagement. She has led our institution through some very difficult times and we are very thankful,” Lane said. “As the university embarks on the search for a new president, it faces the challenging task of finding a leader who can match Dr. Boggess’ vision, passion, and ability to inspire. The search committee will need to identify a candidate who not only upholds the values and traditions of Concord University but also brings innovative ideas to guide the institution into the future. Our meeting today is the first step in this process.”

The search committee was set to have its first meeting Monday evening over Zoom.

Boggess became Concord’s 12th president in April 2014 after a career than began on campus in 1984. Before that she was in the private sector for 25 years.

Other positions Boggess has held at the Athens-based university include faculty president, associate dean, interim vice president and academic dean.
