Trial rescheduled for Charleston woman accused of murdering boyfriend’s daughter

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston woman who allegedly stabbed her boyfriend’s daughter to death is set to go on trial this fall pending the results of a criminal responsibility evaluation.

Amber Wymer

Amber Wymer, 43, appeared before Kanawha County Circuit Judge Kenneth Ballard Monday morning where the judge rescheduled her trial to start Oct. 7. It was supposed to begin this month.

Kanawha County Public Defender Rick Holicker said it was necessary to delay the trial.

“We still need the criminal responsibility evaluation. I’m going to take some responsibility for the fact that we don’t have it yet,” Holicker said. “We had her independently evaluated and it didn’t go through the court for that.”

Holicker requested an order to pay the doctor to complete the evaluation.

Wymer is charged in the Jan. 2023 stabbing death of Abigail Marcinkowsky, 20, of Charleston. The stabbing happened at a home on Bauer Avenue in Charleston during an argument. Wymer was allegedly in a relationship with Marcinkowsky’s father.

Judge Ballard ruled last month that Wymer is competent to stand trial.

A pretrial hearing has been set for Sept. 26 at 9 a.m.

Wymer remains in the South Central Regional Jail without bail.
