GRAFTON, W.Va. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports that Tygart Lake is currently at a record low level.
Officials said the last measurable rainfall was on July 5. The lake, which is near Grafton, has dropped four feet since July 8.
According to the Corps, the lake was 13.52 feet below the average summer level on Monday and had fallen more than six inches by Tuesday evening.
Officials believe drought conditions will continue which will also increase the risk of harmful algae blooms and other water hazards.
Boaters should remain watchful for submerged hazards and sedimentation. Despite the low water levels, the camping and day-use areas of the lake will remain open, but the marina will close early.
Officials said once the marina removes its docks they will not be reinstalled, even if water levels rise.
